MTX awarded 2 new theatre projects at the Royal Bolton Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital

MTX are pleased to announce our that works have commenced on 2 new theatre projects both based in the North West.

We will be delivering 2 operating theatres to both Royal Bolton Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital, helping to minimise the backlog of appointments acquired during the Covid-19 pandemic. This in turn will ultimately aid in accomplishing the NHS Elective Recovery Plan to tackle Covid-19 backlog and eradicate 2 year wait times.

MTX will return to the Royal Bolton Hospital site, where we previously delivered a urology department and A&E extension, to provide a single storey scheme housing the 2 theatres, ward accommodation and dedicated plantroom.

The Wirral based Clatterbridge Hospital project encompasses 2 theatres, 12 bay recovery suite and first floor plantroom, within a 2 storey facility.

The requirement for additional facilities at hospitals across the country is vital to tackle the effect of Covid-19, which has delayed treatments, operations and even recently; cancer checks. Now that restrictions have lifted, there has been a rise in referrals, however charities have warned of the overwhelming effect Covid-19 has had on cancer care.

The NHS has informed that it will maximise capacity to undertake more procedures and scans in each of the hospitals over the next 3 years, with the goal of achieving approximately 9 million further tests/checks by 2025.  It is intended that over a 3 year period, patients will be offered around 17 million extra diagnostic tests; a 25% rise in capacity as opposed to the 3 years prior to Covid-19.

By utilising Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) the fully compliant facilities will minimise build times by up to 50% and waste by up to 60%, whilst still ensuring an impeccable quality of build. The theatre projects will help both hospital’s requirements for efficient delivery and less disruption, enabling their services to continue to function throughout the construction works.

David Hartley, Managing Director at MTX, added: “We’re thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work with the Trusts at Royal Bolton and Clatterbridge Hospitals on these two projects. This continues a four-year relationship with the Royal Bolton Hospital and the start of a new one with Clatterbridge Hospital, and I’m incredibly proud of the MTX team, as this is testament to their ongoing hard work and expertise. The new facilities will help increase capacity to help ease the backlogs and shorten delays for operations, treatments and screenings.”
