This innovative project, enabled through NHS Shared Business Services funding, saw the creation of a Community Diagnostic Centre at Milford Community Hospital. Designed to deliver vital MRI and CT services to ease hospital pressure and boost cancer care access, the facility was delivered as part of the NHS Community Diagnostic Centre Programme using the latest Modern Methods of Construction.
Using a modular approach, 25 precision-engineered steel modules were manufactured offsite in parallel with complex site groundworks, overcoming sandstone deposits and utility diversions to dramatically reduce the build programme.
The new CDC includes two MRI scanners and a CT scanner, along with consulting rooms and offices, and is set deliver an extra 11,000 MRIs and 9,500 CT scans as part of a 'one-stop-shop' for Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. Delivered on time and to budget, Milford CDC proves that offsite healthcare can be modern, dignified, and effective, offering a scalable blueprint for sustainable NHS development.
We were pleased to work in partnership with MTX on this project as they have extensive experience of constructing similar facilities at other NHS trusts. This unit will improve health outcomes by helping to speed up diagnosis and access to potentially life-saving treatments, while providing a more-convenient service to patients closer to home.
