MTX has successfully completed a new purpose-built Urology Unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, designed to expand capacity and enhance the delivery of specialist urological care. The new facility has been funded by the NHS Capital for Targeted Investment in Elective Recovery created to reduce the backlog of elective procedures.
The 1,400m² development provides six consulting and examination rooms, an ultrasound suite, large treatment areas, and dedicated spaces for chemotherapy, lithotripsy and laboratory functions. Supporting facilities include offices, a staff rest area, changing rooms, reception and waiting areas, all designed to optimise flow and comfort.
Using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), MTX manufactured 44 precisionengineered steel modules offsite, which were craned into position to rapidly form the new building structure. This approach ensured consistent quality, reduced disruption to the live hospital environment and accelerated delivery.
A dedicated plant room located on the first floor houses air handling units and essential mechanical and electrical systems, pre-manufactured offsite in line with Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles.
This unit will provide modern, state-of-the-art facilities for staff and patients, and enable us to perform more surgical procedures and see patients more quickly. It is part of the on-going investment we are making into services at the Trust to ensure our local community can access high quality and safe care as quickly as possible.
