MTX have recently been awarded the contract for a new SSCU Modular Extension to the Lyme Building at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, adding an additional 12 critical care beds. This is arranged as 10 beds in an open plan area, a single critical care bedroom and an isolation suite. This will ultimately increase the hospitals Critical Care capacity by over 20%. MTX are working alongside Kier Northern to deliver what will be a prestigious scheme offering full HTM and HBN compliance.
MTX’s scope of works includes a ground floor offering a suspended ceiling height of 3000mm which is a revolutionary development in the modular industry given that all services are within an internal services void and not installed on the roof. In addition, there is a full concrete floor adhering to the relevant floor response factor, a first floor plant room, new dedicated chiller and air handling plant, IPS/UPS and specialist multi-movement medical gas pendants. The building is finished externally with a brickwork ground floor, to match the existing Lyme Building, and a Kingspan clad first floor inclusive of a parapet wall detail, allowing permanent roof access for maintenance.
The project which has already commenced on site, has an overall programme period of 23 weeks from order date to practical completion including commissioning works, leading to a handover date of January 2015.
